Deck Day 18

This is a combo post. Yesterday, our deck lights arrived. We waited till the sun went down and then started to place lights in different places to explore options. We initially thought we would put lights on top of the post on the patio to help illuminate the deck, but we decided to change that plan and mount the lights about a foot off of the ground so that they provide ambient light but the deck remains relatively dark which is nice for chilling out at night.

This change required some routing of wood to place wires and places we didn't think they would go. It's not that big of a deal now that we have the router. We took care of that work today.

In addition, today Michelle sanded the fence near where we will store the firewood and then applied a Danish oil to it. You can see where a light will eventually be installed on top. It's going to look beautiful!
Other than that, we spent the morning sanding and caulking cracks and wood.

The biggest news of the day was the wood delivery from JW lumber. The truck dropped off the wood in front of the house.
We opened the bundle and placed some of the boards on the deck just so we get an idea of what it will look like when it's done. It's going to be cool!
The weather from tropical storm Mario is expected to arrive later today so we carried all the wood to the backyard and wrapped it up in a tarp to wait out the rains.
As soon as the weather clears, we'll pull the wood back out and coat it with a transparent material that will help preserve the wood and the weather. From there we will start dragging the wood out to the front of the house and figuring out what order we want them placed on the deck.
