sTrEeT

Sean Burns is famous for doing extreme things on a bike. Not your normal bmx stuff....launching off houses, jumping off walls, all kinds of super dangerous stuff. He likes to live the whole "punk-rock" thing and his video is complete with loud music and big crashes. Watch at your own risk.

Gun Control...

Think we  have problems with gun safety in the United States? Before watching, pull out some paper so you can tally the shots.

It Was Good...

Surfed the jetty this afternoon. I rode my bike to check it around noon and took the photos below. The pictures of Avalanche breaking were a little misleading because it was super shifty and most were closing out but the off shore winds made things look pretty.

Basically everything was closed out but the jetty. I paddled out there with about 35 other guys and caught three waves. One was mushy, one closed out, and one was the best barrel I've had in a couple of years. It was aprox the size of the one in the third photo and lasted about three seconds before I was schooled by the lip. Worth the paddle out :)

23:31

That's how long it took Michelle and I to take our 1.525 mile walk around our neighborhood today.

Finally Made It...

On Jan. 12 we posted a copy of a 96 hour weather fax forecast showing a storm brewing in the west pacific. We thought it would push some waves our way. It turns out the storm was pretty big.....one report saying at the peak there were waves the size of four story buildings in the middle of it. Another said the fetch (size of the storm generating waves) was aprox. the size of the continental U.S. That's pretty big. A huge high pressure system off the west coast of the United States has kept it warm and sunny in California, and it kept the storm away from our shores.

What does that mean? Today and tomorrow we are getting some sizable surf with a REALLY long swell period...up to almost 20 seconds. That means at the beach it will be flat for awhile then out of nowhere a huge wave shows up....then it goes flat again. Check the forecast below. We'll post a couple photos of the surf later.

Melting Snow

We made it home from Denver and posted our photos in PicasaWeb. We also posted a cool photo of some melting snow. The red water can  be seen under the ice.

Red Rocks...

Michelle and I visited the Red Rocks Amphitheater yesterday. We saw a snowman sitting on a bench. Later on I borrowed Candace's bike and went for a ride around their neighborhood. I found a rock sculpture and an old 70's Ford pick up that definitely wasn't California smog legal. Later on I enjoyed a beer on Dewayne and Candace's deck and watched a pretty sunset. Nice and relaxed.

Dinosaur Toes

Last night Michelle and I hung out with her parents, Dewayne, Candace, and Charlie. Charlie is a happy baby who loves to smile. He was also wearing some groovy green dino socks. Looking cool!

Storm Brewing In The Pacific...

I've been watching the weather faxes and GRIB files and everything is forcasting a pretty major storm brewing in the West Pacific. The storm is forcasted to head east towards Northern California. Its still days away but looks to be pretty big. The five day forcast shows it aprox. 4000 miles east of Hawaii. Thats a long ways away from California.

What does this mean? We may have some major west swell coming this way in a week or so. If I didn't have a job then I'd be packing the truck for a trip to the Seven Sisters in Baja.

I'll be watching it develop. See if you can find the storm in the 96 hour forcast below...

But Can You Scratch?

If you have ever listened to the Beastie Boys, you've heard people who "scratch". There are tons of DJ's out there who do this but one of the kings is a guy from the East Coast called Skratch Bastaid. When listening to his music, remember there are no synthesizers or sound machines....everything you hear is coming from two different turn tables.

Watch closely and you'll see how he switches from song to song, from record to record, without changing or interrupting the beat. Sometimes he is playing the same record on both record players but mixing them together at the same time.

If you want to get technical...his style is called scribble. All I know is I can't do that....

Lets Get It Together....And See What's Happening

In this case, we got the shed together. We used to have three Rubbermaid sheds in the backyard...small, medium, and large. A couple months ago we consolidated the small and medium sheds together and sold off the smaller one.

Today we installed shelves into the larger tool shed and consolidated them again. The shelving system really helped us take advantage of usable space. We finished the project just as it started to rain!

Next weekend I'll clean up the medium size shed and put it on Craigslist. The last shed sold for $60.00. I'm hoping this one will go for $80.00 or more. We'll see....

We will use the extra space to store our trash cans. The back storage area is slowly looking less and less trashy.
